FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASEDown to the wire at
Geelong
13 October, 2003 - This year’s Dunlop Australian CIK Championship
will go down to the wire the wire this weekend at Geelong’s Corio Bay
Raceway in Victoria.
With the Championship Australia’s equivalent of the European and World
Championships where many Formula One stars began their careers the action
this weekend will be nothing short of sensational.
In the elite Formula A division there
is four drivers who all have a chance to snare the crown including 1993
Champion, Richard McLeod who won the previous round at Dubbo, NSW in
August. Despite sitting in fourth in the Championship McLeod has the
“never say die” attitude and will be going all out this weekend for the
round victory and give himself the best possible chance of overhauling
the trio in front of him.
“I’ve been out to win all year and I would have liked to be a bit
further up the order coming into this weekend but I will be doing
everything possible to steal the Championship,” said McLeod from his
Toowoomba base during the week.
If McLeod did steal the Title from Hryniuk’s grasp he will become the
first driver to win dual Formula A crowns. Some of the drivers who have
previously won the Formula A Championship include Jamie Whincup and Mark
Winterbottom who both competed last weekend in the Bathurst 1000 |

Victorian Trulli Kart pilot, Glenn Powles came
tantalizingly close to winning last year’s Intercontinental A Championship
and this year is on track to go one better with a handy points lead entering
this weekend’s final round.

The Intercontinental C Championship
is the closest fought battle with three drivers within 10 points any
slip up by Tyson Pearce, William Yarwood and Justin Ruggier and the
other two will pounce. These drivers use a 6-speed 125cc machines
reaching speeds in excess of 120kmph.

William Yarwood |
New South Welshman Kristian Lindbom has all
but sealed his Championship in the Junior Intercontinental A class but
any slip up by Lindbom will allow Ballarat driver, Ben McCashney to
snare the title.
