Nail-bighting finish to 2003 Championship

19 October, 2003 - With Championships still on the line the action at the final day of the Dunlop Australian CIK Championship was some of the closest racing of the five round Championship.

Formula A

Entering into the final Barclay Holden was 6 points in arrears of Championship leader and when Hryniuk was force out after only one lap the Championship appeared to be all smooth sailing for the Gold Coast driver.  Holden who had an exciting  episode of qualifying commented "I had a drama in second qualifying with a stuck throttle sending me into the tires".  However when he dropped to fifth the Championship was set to go to Hryniuk despite him sitting on the sidelines.  With two laps remaining Bart price and Andrew Tomlinson got together allowing Holden into third and take the Championship by 3 points.

The Championship victory overshadowed a superb performance by Matthew Wall to break through for his maiden Formula A victory and Jason Burn’s fine second place.  Holden’s third sealed his Championship fate.

“After three years of trying it is great to be the Champion, finally,” smiled Holden after the 39-lap Final.
