SKUSA Red River Report Race 2

RAce 2 Report

April 29 - Red River Series Race 2 at OMC in Norman Oklahoma brought a large field of 66 entries coming from as far away as California and Florida.  Oklahoma Motorsports Complex (OMC) has one of the finest karting facilities in the nation, and certainly one of the most challenging tracks to drive.

First up were the Trophy Presentations from Race 1 in Houston.

60cc Novice

80 Junior

Geee.. "Ill never be at the top again" ...1

Jordan Blisset on top for Rotax Jr

The new TAG class brought in 10 entries combining Biland, Rotax, and Leopard power on the track.  The OMC facility has all combinations of low speed and high speed attributes and gave an excellent comparison among the various motors in this strictly recreational class.  Afterwards everyone agreed they had a great time time racing together.  This class also had a very appealing audio effect as the deep growl of the Biland was punctuated by the tamer sounding Rotax and the high pitch of the Leopard.  Local hotshoe Will Krause brought his Biland home for the win.

Rotax Jr had the smallest entry count as half of the Rotax Jr competitors attended a different Regional event.  Taylor Harris took home the gold in all heats.

60cc Novice brought out a pack of 7 to contest for the series points.  All of them plan on attending the Amateur Nationals held in August at OMC, so they were working hard to get the set up just right for OMC.  Dylan Postier made it to the pole for the Final, but experiencing clutch problems had to be push started last after the field roared by.  Dylan's charge from last to 3rd was a treat to watch, but in the end it was Tyler Campbell first to the checker.

Formula 80Jr posted 15 of the fastest Juniors in the region, with a fantastic battle in the final between Chad Bryant and Garret Napier were nose-to-tail with Garret looking for Chad to make a mistake in the 20 lap Final.  Chad felt no pressure and drove a flawless race to finish first with just a tenth of a second cushion over Garret.  Ace Carrio came down from the Rockies to get some quality time in with the Red River Region, and was right there in the end only 4 seconds back for 3rd.

G1/FMX/K1 was a combined field of 14 with John Kindhart rapidly moving to the lead.  John pulled off on lap 6 handing the G1 lead over to Jeff Carter.   Bryan Morgan kept a solid pace throughout the race finishing second 16 seconds behind Jeff Carter.  FMX does not draw many entrants in the Red River Region,  and had 2 entries.  K1 had 3 entries with Michael Brookes taking the win.

FIC turned out to record the fastest lap times of the weekend with Wade Van Hooser dominating the weekend on his TM powered Intrepid.  Wade was the only driver to break into the 43's which may well be the new track record at OMC for FIC.  We hope to be posting OMC Track Records over the next few weeks.

SP/S1 posted a combined count of 9 entries and put on a great show between Michael Johnson, Chris Jackson, and André DeMarais.  In the Final, André put his Intrepid into fast forward mode taking a 9 second victory over Matt Whittmer.

The XLS version of the AMB timing results for Qualifying and Finals can be downloaded here.

Race Director Jon Anderson, and Flagman Shawn McCarty did a fantastic job of managing the event for the weekend, and Tom Thelan handled the AMB system with his impeccable style.

Bill Kistler of Racepix came up from Dallas to take some photos at the event and may have some pictures of your team available.

Kartweb also produced a the pilots for our new show, Kartweb Reports! in two parts.  If you have Broadband access, you can view these shows from the Multimedia page at Kartweb.  We will be putting together a collection of these reports on DVD.
