  2003 US Rotax Max Challenge

"The Road to Egypt"

Wednesday opened the five day USRMC show in Denton Texas with over 150 entries.   Tech was operated in a very efficient manner with scrutineering managed by Tech Director Scott Evans.

A few racers expressed mild concerns over a bodywork rule that requires sidepods to remain within a Plane bounded by the outside edge of the front and rear wheels.  It was felt by some that with tires that may protrude beyond that plane could cause "wheel rides" resulting in a flip.  It was pointed out that in a class of such even competition that such rules reduce the tendency for drivers to try to "elbow their way" through a pass.

Pre-Tech Line-up

From California and Oregon, to Miami and Boston, Teams came from across the country packing the pit runner of the North Texas Karters (NTK)  facility.

One tent had at least 8 karts shipped up from Costa Rica to attend.

As NTK held pre-practice days on Monday and Tuesday, several teams had the opportunity to get some quality practice time in on the challenging 9-turn half mile circuit.  Drivers commented that the facilities were excellent, and the track has more grip then many are used to.  They all felt the track was an excellent choice for the USRMC.

With two new Rotax classes in the line-up for 2003, SSC brought a few extra Mini-Max and RM1 packages for some competitors to enter.  The Mini-Max is designed as a cadet style package, while the RM1 is a 2-speed shifter package using a direct drive system free of chains.  Both of these classes are likely to take off in the future.

Race Director Marshal Martin has set up a wireless Ethernet system to provide live results from timing and scoring throughout the pits.  Kartweb staff is testing the opportunity to provide a live feed for Saturday and Sunday - but we make no promises.  The NTK facility is on the fringes of our GSM communication signal, but we will try.....

Wednesday evening CRC Racing in Prosper Texas (about 20 minutes from the track) threw a party for the entrants at their race shop.  As the importer of the Arrows chassis, there was a raffle held for a new Arrows chassis, along with free food and beverages.  About 100 people attended and enjoyed the hospitality provided by Rik Crews and company.
