  2003 US Rotax Max Challenge

"The Road to Egypt"

One hundred and fifty four entries gathered for the drivers meeting under Race Director Marshal Martin.  After laying down the official Rotax International rules for a Grand National event along with a discussion of the schedule for the day, questions and answers were provided.

Rotax International rules have some differences that follow more of the CIK standards making for a few differences.  For example,  under no circumstances is a crew member allowed on the track, even to assist in retrieving a kart that is off track after the session is over.   One team learned the hard way the rules would be enforced without question.

Drivers meeting

The schedule gave controlled practice sessions in the morning, with qualifying in the afternoon.  The regulations rigidly control tires and fuel through Parc Freme impound processes.   Teams were given 40 minutes to check out their tires from inventory, mount them on rims, and have their karts ready to qualify.  The process ran smoothly with time to spare.

The schedule was held tight down to the second.  Timing and scoring results were provided in real-time for those with a Wireless Ethernet card in their PC as the AMB files were broadcast on 802b protocol.  No incidents through the day, just hard work and fun driving.
