SuperPro racing from the 2003 SuperNationals

Sixty-nine entries included the best from SKUSA, and some of the leading drivers from Europe and the Stars league.  Many of the top team tuners spoke little English mostly Italian.  Suitcase motors were rumored to be in use by some teams although none would admit to it.  None the less the presence of tuners from some of the ICC factories gave the perception that several teams had that advantage.  Suitcase or not, the fastest lap times among those alleged suitcase motors and those coming from at least one west coast tuner went to the "west cost tuner".

The ambition to win was huge and intense.  The top 50 qualifiers were separated by less then 1 second.  On-track the battle was intense, with the first Pre-Final resulting in two red flags.  Working lap 3 Kyle Martin made contact with another kart raking a "wheel ride" on the fastest part of the track estimated in the upper 80MPH range.  Kyle's kart cleared a good six feet of air sending him tumbling and skidding on the ground.  Kyle suffered a fractured clavicle with bruises and abrasions, yet was back at the track on Sunday to watch.  The second red flag came on the opening lap of the restart when Stuart Robinson got turned over on a slower part of the course.  Stuart was not injured, but effectively ended his weekend.

Racing in the final was just as intense as Ron White worked on getting around Jordy Vorrath than set sail for Wesley Boswell.  Reeling in Wesley about 1 foot a lap for several laps, it looked like Ron might have had the steam for a challenge, but in the closing laps Ron began to back peddle a little, as though tires were beginning to fade.  Overall, a very good show to watch.
