TAG Senior racing from the 2003 SuperNationals

Touch-And-Go.  It’s not a shifter, but it’s a pretty good class with plenty of power.  Kind of like “ICA for dummies”.  No, maybe ICA is more like TAG for dummies.  You decide.  In either case both TAG and ICA have comparable lap times at most tracks.

TAG replaces the Rotax class that did not grow at anticipated levels with SKUSA Regional and elect National events.  The fastest growing class in America for 2003, some SKUSA regions have adopted it as a local option with significant success.   Like any other clutch kart, they use a rolling start.

Entries included SuperPro drivers Wade VanHooser, Matt Champaign, and IRL driver Buddy Rice.  Buddy found the karts a bit over his head as he chose to sit out qualifying and racing….  Even the Biland factory sent a team from Austria.

After qualifying on the pole, Chris Freckleton tried an old trick used and abused by many racers in the past by putting his hand in the air approaching the green – the green dropped, with Chris dropping the hammer while everyone behind dropped the anchor momentarily.  While Chris finished first, he was given a 1 position penalty in the Pre-Final.

On a sadder note, TAGUSA leader Tom Argy passed away from injuries received in a traffic accident just days before.  Jim Murley chose to name Turn 1 of the SKUSA temporary courses in Tom's honor.
