JACKSONVILLE/HURRICANE ISABEL UPDATE Stars Eastern Division finale to proceed as planned. HILLIARD, OH. (September 16, 2003) – Stars of Tomorrow issued the following statement regarding the Jacksonville round of the Eastern Division national series and hurricane Isabel: “Concern has mounted about the upcoming Stars national race in Jacksonville since hurricane Isabel set its sights on the U.S. mainland. With the current track of the hurricane now set to take it well north of Florida and the continued weakening of the storm, Stars will proceed with the Jacksonville event in full. Our foremost concern is for the safety of our competitors and teams. We have been monitoring Isabel’s status since last Friday. Given its current and forecasted path and the downgrading of its strength from a Category 5 storm to Category 3 in the last 48 hours, it is clear that the event location itself will be unaffected by this storm. Isabel still represents a threat to the Carolinas, Virginia, and other states primarily to the north. We urge any competitors traveling from or through the potentially affected areas to plan accordingly by leaving early, planning alternate travel routes, and keeping up to date on the latest weather information.” The Jacksonville race is the final rounds seven and eight of the Eastern Division series, where divisional championships will be decided and competitors will attempt to earn maximum points to carry into the Stars Karting Championships at California Speedway in November. The Champ Car 'Stars of Tomorrow' presented by RACER karting series is the official first level in CART's driver development system and an officially sanctioned series of WKA/SCCA Pro Racing. Founded by racing star Bryan Herta and now owned in conjunction with a group of racing veterans, including three-time CART champion and Indy 500 winner Bobby Rahal, the Stars of Tomorrow serves as the first step for the CART driver development ladder. Stars focuses on recognizing the skills of the drivers rather than the technology development within the machines, using FIA/CIK International standards.
