Stars Karting Championship Update

After moving the race from Fontana to Moran due to the raging forest fires, the dry weather turns damp on Saturday adding to the challenge of learning a 1 mile track.  Darren Elliot who could qualify for G1 this year, put on the fastest lap times in practice Friday but just didn't have the speed on Saturday for qualifying.  Alex had the Speed and took pole position.

At first when the rain fell it was a light drizzle, not enough for rain tires, but enough to make a track slippery.  Chassis changes to wet set ups were made, even so, running on a damp track puts new meaning to the word "slicks".  There were lots of off-course excursions in practice.  Blowing winds brought in a bitter 50° cold front, while the weather hurled a few challenges, not to mention EZ-Up canopies.  The AMB Timing system had an outage episode during ICC qualifying, and as of the time of this article has not been uploaded to Eventlab.

ICA

Predicting the ICA results is only slightly less difficult then buying the right lottery ticket when it rains.  As ICA has become a favored class in Canada, it would make sense that taems from the great white north would hold a dominant position as they have.   For the second year, former ICA/FA "ringer" Benjamin Horstman was flown in from Australia to compete.  ICC talent Jordy Vorrath also  decided to suit up in an ICA, putting on a pretty good performance in this ultra-light class.

Qualifying

  1. Helmuth Sanden 65.763
  2. Tim Maddux 66.089
  3. Benjamin Horstman 66.141

Pre-Final

ETC.,

With the cancellation of the CART race in Fontana due to the fires, the CART organization is now reporting losses in excess of $77,000,000 this year, and the very survival depends on a merger with Open Wheel Racing Series.   In its financial statement, CART said;

 “If the proposed merger with Open Wheel is not completed for any reason, and if no strategic transaction that is an alternative to the merger is available to us at that time, it is expected that we will be required immediately to cease our operations, wind up our affairs and seek to liquidate our remaining assets because our cash resources and other sources of liquidity would be substantially depleted by that time.

In that event, we expect that CART, Inc. and our other subsidiaries would discontinue racing and other operations and commence liquidation."

This would be a sad note indeed as the premiere quality racing series in America is displaced by left-turn only racing.
