On September 18th, Mr. Reed Froehlich, a senior at the University of Oklahoma, competed in the SKUSA World Finals in Formula S1. Starting on pole, Reed led the entire 25 lap race and logged 13 fastest race laps thus winning the Radical SR3 test donated to SKUSA by STARS & STRIPES MOTORSPORTS.

Reed's awarded test day in the Radical SR3 was conducted on October 28th at HALLETT MOTOR RACING CIRCUIT. Attending the test was Reed's father, mother and family friends. Also a representative from the Tulsa Chamber of Commerce was present to view the event.

Hallett is a technical 1.8 mile, ten turn, road course in the Osage hill country of Oklahoma with an 80' elevation change. The test was conducted anti clockwise. The weather was overcast with periods of light mist in the morning with drying conditions by afternoon. The day started with SR3 familiarization and car fitting by Sam Elliott, then track orientation from Dan Bush. The Radical SR3 once again proved to be an exceptional and unique training tool as Dan gave Reed a demo ride in the SR3, followed by a session of Reed driving Dan for further instruction. This could not be accomplished with other single seat race cars. Next was a solo session where Reed took to the track and came up to speed quickly. The transition from karts to cars was not any problem at Reed's skill level.

Next an upscale hospitality lunch was provided by Barbara Bush of STARS & STRIPES MOTORSPORTS for all in attendance.

The first afternoon session unfortunately was cut short due to a clutch problem that ended the day for the Radical. Stars & Stripes Motorsports in order complete the commitment to Reed and SKUSA switched to a 2001 Van Diemen F-2000. Reed completed two more ontrack sessions that afternoon using the F-2000. Mr. Froehlich has commented since that Reed was extremely impressed with the handling qualities of the Radical SR3 and hopes to get more time in it. So I am confident that this young karting champion is not finished with the Radical SR3 yet!

Over all Reed's driving performance was great and the day was very much enjoyed by all in attendance. Reed Froehlich is a very nice young man, a good race driver and a pleasure to work with. He is a fine representative of the young drivers that participate in SKUSA. We hope to work with Reed more in the future.

We wish to take a moment to express our sincere appreciation to Mr. Joe Janowski of SUPERKARTS USA, Mr. Paul Dujon of RADICAL SPORTSCARS UK, Mr. Bryan Davies of AVON RACING TYRES UK and the entire Stephens family, owners of HALLETT MOTOR RACING CIRCUIT for making Mr. Reed Froehlich's test day a valuable award to the SKUSA World Finals Formula S1 winner! Rewarding young talent is the only way to make the future of motorsports strong. Now from all of us at STARS & STRIPES MOTORSPORTS, Reed, thanks it was a pleasure working with you. We pray the best for your racing goals.

Information about the test has be sent to Radical Sportscars UK, Avon Racing Tyres UK, SKUSA, Hallett Motor Racing Circuit, Racingschools.com.

Editor's note;

Reed was easily the "Ace in the Hole" for  a Team Intrepid win at the SuperNats this year.  At the World Finals this year Reed won hands down and was probably the only competitor in the field to have handled his own tuning, thanks in part to the predictability of the Intrepid chassis.  Reed had to make a decision between the SuperNationals and the Radical testing - and chose the Radical testing.

My bet is, the grin behind that helmet in both of the pictures above runs from "ear-to-ear".
