ROCK ISLAND GRAND PRIX NEWSLETTER

We would just like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who participated in this year’s Rock Island Grand Prix. We hope everyone will mark their calendars for Sept. 3-4, 2005. Also remember if you move be sure to let us know your new address. As always, if you would like to be removed from this mailing list, please respond stating such and we’ll do so immediately.

Our race organization will be meeting Tuesday, October 12. Please feel free to send along any feedback, good or bad, prior to that to grandprix@qconline.com  or mail it to Rock Island Grand Prix, 1724 Fourth Avenue, Suite 200, Rock Island, Ill. 61201. We will also be ruling at that time on refunds for race entries which withdrew after August 1, as per our rules.

Coming Soon: Watch www.kartweb.com  for information on Rock Island Grand Prix videos. Some are already available online to subscribers and DVDs will be available soon. These are a great way to remember the races and we had some especially good racing this year that we know everyone will want to relive during the winter.

Historic Action: Also, if you’re looking for some historic kart racing DVDs to get your friends excited about the sport, don’t forget to check out the selection offered by Tom Argy III at www.tcmracingvideos.com  . Tommy has taken many of the Argy collection of kart race classics and copied them onto DVD format.

Sponsor Opportunities: The Rock Island Grand Prix offers a long list of marketing and exposure opportunities. If you know of a business which could benefit from a partnership with the Rock Island Grand Prix, please let us know. Sponsors account for a major portion of our operating revenue and without them we would not be able to continue to offer this great event. This year’s loss of one of our Presenting Sponsors leaves us vulnerable heading into 2005, so we must find new partners to replace them.

Support Our Sponsors: We would like to encourage everyone to support our sponsors if you have the opportunity during the coming year. We honored four this year for supporting us all 10 years that the races have been held. They are SBC, the regional communications company; Zimmerman Cars; The Dispatch and Rock Island Argus newspapers; and, Four Points Hotel by Sheraton. Many others have supported us for nearly as long and a complete list can be found on our website at www.rockislandgrandprix.com .

In terms of the karting/racing industry supporters, we would like to thank Easykart America which sponsored our TAG classes; Rieken’s Racing in Marion, Iowa, the junior class sponsor; Klein Tools, Inc.; Bob Bondurant SuperKart School the long-time sponsor of King of the Streets race; Briggs & Stratton Motorsports for their support of the Animal classes this year; J&J Racing/Grand Prix Dist./Vega tires; G Man Kartworks; Sprint Kart Speedway in Davenport, Iowa; F1 Indoor Karting in Bettendorf, Iowa; and Russell Karting/Dunlop for their support this year.

Don’t Miss Kart Expo: Also, a special mention to Kart Expo International. We are very proud to continue to be a sponsor of this event, Feb. 26-27, 2005 in suburban Chicago, and have them as a sponsor of the Rock Island Grand Prix. If you don’t already have Kart Expo on your list of things to do this winter, you had better add it now. It offers a great opportunity to see everything that will be new in 2005, plus meet many of the people who make our industry click. Don’t forget to stop by the Rock Island Grand Prix booth too. For information see www.e-kmi.com  .

RIGP Products: We still have 10th anniversary commemorative pins for sale at $4.00 each or two for $7.00. We have RIGP hats for $10.00, and a few X- large and XX-large 2004 Rock Island Grand Prix t-shirts for $10.00. We also have Rock Island Grand Prix DVDs which feature race action and interviews from our 2002 & 2003 races, presented in a documentary format. They are $20.00. All prices do not include shipping. Please email us if interested in any of these products and we’ll work out the details.

Halloween Fun: For those in the Midwest, don’t forget to participate in a unique and fun event – the 10th annual Halloween Grand Prix on Oct. 30 at Trane Motor Speedway in Norway, Ill. There will be over 200 entries and Halloween fun too. Call Intense Karting, 815-495-9991 for more information.

We try harder: Finally, we’d like to thank Rob Howden and the staff at Super Kart Illustrated for naming the Rock Island Grand Prix No. 2 among the Top 10 Races in North America behind the SKUSA SuperNationals. Since shifters and TAGs are all that can race at Vegas, that pretty much leaves us No. 1 for most of the continent’s kart racers – ahead of some prestigious events like WKA Kart Week, the Rotax Max Grand Nationals, ASN Canadian National Championships and Road America SuperNationals. We will strive to be worthy of the recognition and, as No. 2, will continue to try harder.

Also, a big THANK YOU to all of the racing media which provided such great coverage of The Rock!!

Race safe!!
