Held at the fabulous Laguna Seca Raceway the World SuperKart Challenge has truly become the international showdown for the fastest karting class in the world.  With entries coming as far way as Australia, this event is one of the best in America. 

This year practice starts on October 13, with racing on Sunday October 17th.  Run in conjunction with the American LeMans Series (ALMS) endurance race there are expected to be over 100,000 spectators.   So far on Friday, the fastest lap times set by the ALS cars came from Frenchman Nicolas Minassian, who turned the 2.238-mile road racing circuit at 1:15.893 to win the overall pole in only his second ALMS race.   Driving the new DBA-Zytek Nicolas surprised the dominant Audi team.  Last year, a few of the 250's ran laps that could have qualified them mid pack with the ALMS cars.

World SuperKarts come in two classes; 

Formula E - powered by high performance often hand built 2 cylinder motors producing over 100HP, these karts have nearly double power to weight of a Winston Cup NASCAR and turn lap times faster then Formula Atlantics at most track.

Formula ICE - powered by highly tuned Moto engines, 250cc 2 strokes, or up to 450cc 4 strokes, they produce in the range of 75-85 HP.  Typically these karts run about equal lap times with 250HP Formula Atlantics.
