Rock Island Grand Prix Videos

This is the fourth year Rolling Thunder Multimedia has produced Karting vids from the Rock.  Every year they keep getting better!

This year we'll begin taking orders on September 14th either by our Paypal Order Page or by Mail.

The first 100 orders will get a free 1 year subscription to Kartweb.

These are a 2-DVD set with over 3 hours of racing action, all 15 races.

Only Kartweb brings you the best in Karting Videos!

Behind the scenes - What it takes to produce these videos

We've had a number of people ask why it takes so long to get these videos to DVD's.  here is a partial list of what goes into the RIGP Videos;

  • AMB Timing & Scoring Files are converted to Excel and reformatted on 38 Worksheets.
  • Over 80 Image files are created.  These include opening scenes, qualifying, last chance qualifiers, and results.
  • 14 hours of video tape is downloaded to disk (about 180 Gigabytes) for editing.  During the download a rough storyboard is written for each class.
  • Graphics and audio selections are assembled for each class storyboard.
  • Each class is edited into a single timeline.
  • On first edit pass, each class video is quality checked start to finish for blank frames and other defects.  In some cases camera movements or other problems may exist.  Most but not all issues like this are adjusted where possible.  (We've seen the video probably 8-10 times before it's ready for you).
  • Encode the final cut in un-compressed format.  That takes another 50 Gigabytes.  I know, disk space is cheap.  But networks could be faster...
  • Encode the videos in MPEG2 (DVD) and 1Mbs 640x480 WMV (Kartweb Theater).
  • Copy back ups of files to 17 DVD's.
  • Create DVD Opening Scene and Menu.
  • Create DVD Files.
  • Create DVD Masters.
  • Create DVD surface Graphics.
  • Create DVD Wrapper Graphics.

Then we are ready to mass copy DVD's and silkscreen surfaces for sale.  At the same time we begin putting the videos on the web;

  • Upload WMV's to Webserver.  Last year this took a little over 2 Gigabytes.  That may not sound like much, but it takes about 30 hours alone in upload time.  Just the King of the Street video alone takes about the same disk space as all of Ekartingnews.

This year we've contracted out some of the editing, and will be shipping DVD's within two weeks of the show.  These are more then just racing videos they are memories of being a part of the crown jewel of racing.  That makes it worth the effort.  Enjoy.
