Continuing the tradition of the Rock Island partnership with SKUSA the
King of the Streets title was run by SKUSA weights at 380Lbs and runs the
MG Yellow tire compound. 35 drivers put their machines to the test
in qualifying knowing that the top 24 were guaranteed a spot in the
Feature, the remaining 11 having to duke it out in the last chance
qualifier race Sunday morning. Setting the track on fire was 2004 winner
Kyle Wiegand. Running at the front of the Stars series this year
Kyle's talents were in the spotlight early as he set a new track record of
32.020 - beating the record he set in 2004 of 32.363. Not bad
considering last year the class ran on stickier Bridgestone YHB tires.
Of course Kyle was indeed a little faster on YHB's - see the ICC race
report for that.
4 time King Alan Rudolph was in the hunt for the $3000 offered to this
years King along with a chance to wear the crown a 5th time. Joe
Janowski turned in a respectable qualifying time while doing a Ben
Stein imitation Joe's SKUSA organization posted the $3000 first place
prize.
Racing was fast and furious with a lot of action from 2-30th position.
Phil Giebler put on a great show moving his Intrepid up from 14th to 5th
over the 30 lap Feature.
