ROTAX RM1 WORLD FINALS RESULTS MORAC |
| |
|
Rotax RM1 was introduced as the premier Rotax class a few years ago
and it's been slow to rise to the top. 2005 is the last year
of the spec Sodi chassis so it's bound to take off in 2006. RM1
has a several returning drivers entered, including 2004 Jr champ
South African Wesley Orr. Defending the American titles are
Justin Melton of Flower Mound TX, Jonathon Beason and Nathan Mauel
both from Broken Arrow OK. All three Americans are veterans to
the Rotax World Finals. |
|
With 32 entries total, everyone was assured a grid position for the
finals. Having 2 speeds the RM1 turned the fastest laps
in of the weekend with a 1:02.583 going into the record books,
better then half a second ahead of the Rotax Sr.
Practice ran on a dry track on Thursday with wet track for the
heat race that afternoon adding about 6 seconds to the lap times.
Team USA had a tough run in qualifying with Justin at P21,
Jonathon at P25, and Nathan at P28. |
|
|
The wet heat race exciting as they all ran on Mojo slicks. Top
RM1 qualifier Wesley Orr diced with Esa Pekkanan of Finland finally
talking the lead but spun dropping him back to 27th position.
Justin, Nathan and Jonathon had to deal with rough & tumble NASCAR
style racing with Justin advancing to P17, Jonathon to P24, and
Nathan taking a DQ for "dificulties". Taking to the Saturday Rotax
RM1 final favored Wesley Orr was starting from way back in 25th
position. Outpacing the rest of the field by over half a
second a lap, Wesley put his Rotax RM1 ahead of the rest of the pack
on lap 25 for the win.
