With the famed SKUSA SuperNationals coming up quickly there was some
tension as the class structure announcement was delayed a few days.

A little background for newbies;
The SKUSA SuperNationals is in it's 9th year. In the early days
it began as the ultimate shoot-out for shifter kart racing. After a
few years at the XPLEX facility in Vegas the SuperNats moved to the
parking lot of the fabulous Rio Hotel where it grew to become the pinnacle
of shifter kart racing.
| Anyone who was anyone in
karting along with a couple hundred others was on the roster for the
SuperNats. Using the SKUSA Tec-Pro barriers, the track was
fast, technical and challenging with plenty of ideal passing points.
Staffed by the legendary SKUSA "A-Team" races were run with
Chronograph clockwork precision, with an exceptional audio system
keeping everyone informed.
Serving as the event headquarters the colorful Rio Hotel
background was eye-candy as a backdrop. |
 |
| In 2002 the SuperNats was treated to a
4 hour HDNet broadcast production that carried all the races.
The ambiance was more than just a race meet, this was a celebration.
The ground had finally been broken to make karting it's own truly
professional grade sport. |
In 2004 the event moved to Sam Boyd Stadium and turned out some pretty
good racing despite concerns over track safety. No serious racing
related incidents occurred.
In 2003 Kartweb produced a handful of videos from some of the races in
a report format.
To watch the S1 video click here. Other races are in the
Subscriber Section of Kartweb.
2005 is likely to see a significant decline in the number of Moto
entries of the past due to the integration of the Motos into the clearly
faster ICC's. While Moto development has leveled off, ICC's are
still getting faster. Moto drivers just don't care to spend the kind
of money it takes to run at this level with a 1-2 second handicap.
Looking back at the Nation's Cup from last week, and the Rock Island Grand
Prix a few weeks ago, Motos were consistently 1-2 seconds off the times
set by ICC's.
Does anyone else see an opportunity here? Stay
tuned....
