Iron Rock Raceway and Oklahoma Motorsports Complex Announce New Regional Superkart Racing Series for 2005
The 2005 Southwest Regional Cup Series will attempt to reunite the
karting community, rebuild the size of each race class and execute a
race format and race weekend as professionally as the biggest and best
national race. By bringing this series to the best tracks in the area,
offering a class structure that includes nearly everyone, providing an
efficient and affordable format and with professional execution, Swayne
and Berryhill are hopeful that the series will attract more than100
participants per race instead of the typical 50 to70 common over the
past few years.
The 2005 Southwest Regional Cup Series format will include six two-race weekends. Initially, three of the races are planned to run at the OMC facility in Norman, Oklahoma; the other three are to be run at the new IRR facility in Austin, Texas. However, should a third or fourth quality venue join with OMC and IRR, that schedule will be modified to split the races at each location equally. Every attempt is being made to arrange the 2005 Southwest Regional Cup Series schedule around schedules of other series., Special attention is being given to the Southwest Roadracing Association, due to the large number of karters in this area who would enjoy a race season that includes both sprint and road racing. To insure fairness and consistency from race to race and venue to venue, the series will employ the following professionals, who will serve as the cornerstone staff for each race:
Each race will be supplemented with a technician for scales, scoring
and additional corner workers.
Trophies will be awarded for first, second and third place in each class and every effort will be made to raise the bar in terms of the quality of trophy offerings. The 2005 Southwest Regional Cup Series will have its own website that will be linked to the OMC, IRR and affiliate tracks’ websites to assure timely and accurate race series announcements, schedules and standings of each participant. A typical 2005 Southwest Regional Cup Series race weekend will include an optional all-day Friday practice session for all signed entrants at no cost. Saturday will begin with warm-up and practice sessions, followed by qualifying, a pre-final and closing with the First Main Event. Sunday will be a whole new race day following the same format as Saturday and closing with the Second Main Event.. The following classes will be included in the new 2005 Southwest Regional Cup Series.
Entry Fees:
Swayne and Berryhill expect to announce the actual race series
schedule within the next few days. At that time, more details will be
offered regarding point accumulation, drops, tires, fuel, weights, and
other matters.
“We’re really excited about the new series and sincerely want thank all of those in our region that took the time to offer their ideas, opinions and solutions for improving karting in our region,” said Swayne. “We especially want to thank Mike Engstrom with KAM Karting and acknowledge that his input was the driving force behind this change.” |
