The Snap-on Stars of Karting presented by the IRL has released its 2006 schedule. The lineup includes one less race weekend in both the East and West Divisions. Highlights of the new schedule include the series Finals being held at the Woodbine Racetrack and Casino in Toronto, Canada, following up on the successful event there in 2006. The season once again opens up with an East-West combo event with the Race of the Americas in Norman, OK. The newly repaved karting track in the infield of Lowe’s Motor Speedway in Charlotte, NC will host the East division after a one-year absence from the schedule while New Castle Motorsports Park in Indiana (in conjunction with Bump Day weekend at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway) and USA International Raceway in Shawano, WI return to the slate. In the West division, the new Suzuka look-a-like circuit in Tucson, AZ
joins the calendar as well as a new temporary circuit event in the new
downtown events plaza in Henderson, NV. Sonoma, CA returns to the West
schedule with an August date. The Henderson venue is slated to be the site
of the series finale from 2007-2009. While not part of the Snap-on Stars of Karting presented by the IRL schedule, the FIA-CIK North American Championships in Norman October 20-22 will see considerable organizational and competitor crossover from the Snap-on Stars series in the ICC, ICA, and JICA classes. Series president Paul Zalud sees the new schedule as striking a good balance between the needs of competitors in the East and West, “It was a priority of ours to get the 2006 schedule finalized as soon as possible. Our Final at Woodbine helps out the East Coast crowd with travel considerations, being that our Final is slated to be in Henderson, NV from 2007 onward and from a marketing and logistical standpoint the Woodbine group came through with everything you could ask for in their debut race this year. I think we have a lineup of very strong facilities, along with a schedule that gives a little more breathing room to our competitors this season. Of course we’re very excited for our involvement in the FIA-CIK North American Championships in October.”
*CIK-FIA World Calendar Event Specific classes have not yet been released for the Stars Championship Series although the ICC, ICA, and JICA classes are committed to the CIK-FIA events.
