Trio of Veteran Announcers Join IKF Region 7 Southwestern Super
Series |
Los Angeles, CA: David Williams, a well-known fixture in the
Southern California Karting scene, has been named as the official
announcer for the International Kart Federation Region 7
Southwestern Super Series 2006 season by regional co-coordinator Don
St. Ours.
Williams, a sculptor by trade, began announcing kart races back in
the 1970’s when he got handed a microphone and asked to improvise by
the event’s officials. His detailed technical information, along
with knowledge of the competitors and their histories made him an
instant hit with the spectators and participants at the event.
Since then he has continued to meet or surpass the standards he set
that day. In 2005, he announced 52 race days with local clubs So Cal
Karters, Tri C and LAKC as well as for local, regional and national
series including the IKF, Stars of Tomorrow and WKA. He was also
heard at the California Road Race Festival and the Vintage Kart
Races.

Joining Williams for the first three races of the series will be the
ever-popular Rob Howden of Howden Communications (Super Kart
Illustrated and
Ekartingnews.com).
Howden is one of the most in demand announcers in the sport of
karting and has announced multiple events including the SKUSA Super
Nationals, Stars of Karting National Championship, The Rock Island
Grand Prix and the Southwestern Super Series season opener at
California Speedway in 2005. He always provides insightful
commentary not only on the competitors and the series, but also
shares information about the sport as a whole.
Later in the season, Trey Valentine will join the series to give the
karters yet another viewpoint on the exciting Region 7 sprint kart
racing action.

Editors Footnote In 2005 the Southwestern
Super Series was revamped by Don StOurs and "a little help from his
friends" to become a model for other regional series to aspire to.
A really great event is more then just big fields and great
racing - when an an event reaches a point where it's great
entertainment the series becomes even more attractive retaining more
racers through the year.
A good announcer can take good racing and turn it into great
entertainment. More cost up front, yes, but over the long haul
of a series an announcer may be able to increase total entries for
the year by about 5-10% - mostly in retaining racers. |
