COUNTDOWN TO BAHRAIN
Twelve days and counting to the first F1 race in over a decade with an American driver in the field.  It just doesn't seem like it was 5 years ago when a young Scott Speed was dominating the top karting series, the fabulous SKUSA ProMoto Series back in 2001.  In 2002 Scott made a surprise last minute entry to the renowned Rock Island Grand Prix to contest for the King of the Streets.
That was also the first major karting video production for Kartweb.  We spent the previous year getting ready to launch into the streaming video productions, so it was very exciting to see the Tonykart-JM Racing van quietly sneak into the paddock parking.

This was an action packed event featuring Bobby Wilson on the pole.  Jim Murley can be seen in front of the lineup giving the boys his usual sign of approval;  sort of a silent acknowledgement of confidence and a dash of professionalism added in.  Also the famous Tom Argy is in the background and Rob Howden on the mike.

Those were the glory years of shifter racing.   In 2002 you just had a feeling that in just a few short years we would be seeing names like Kyle Martin, Scott Speed, Ron White, and Bobby Wilson on the sides of F1, Champ cars and IRL cars.

Only one of those great drivers had the chance to fulfill the dreams that probably every shifter driver had at one time or another.

In this race Scott showed his talent as a smooth driver who makes on-the-ragged-edge driving look like a walk in the park.

There aren't many videos of Scott in a kart, so enjoy this one.  And on march 12, put your money on SPEED!
