Iron Rock Raceway is the second stop on the Southwest Racing
Challenge and bought out a full show for both days of racing.
Under picture perfect skies over 50 of the top drivers in the region
showed up for the quality racing program the SWRC is known for.
Most notable were the strong numbers in the 125cc Sr shifter class.
The folks in Austin have made this event very special with a
charitable effort generating a large contribution to the Dell
Children's Medical Center.
KIDS RACING FOR KIDS RAISES $3,000.00
FOR DELL CHILDRENšS MEDICAL CENTER
April 9, 2006 AUSTIN, TX Kids Racing for Kids (KRK) today
announced that it raised $3,000.00 for the Dell Children's Medical
Center during the Southwest Regional Cup, according to Gretchen
Boyett, KRK program coordinator. KRK is held in conjunction with the
regional series, and eight kart racers aged 6 to 15 participated in
the program by collecting sponsor funds.
"Watching the excitement in their (the racers) eyes when the total
amount was announced was really special," said Boyett. "You
could tell they knew that they had make a difference."
A non-profit, volunteer-based program, "Kids Racing for Kids" was
organized by Austin's Applied Mechanical Corporation in an effort to
bring young racers and sick or needy children together. Southwest
Regional Cup racers between the ages of 5 and 15 are eligible to
participate. Regardless of how the racers finish in their classes,
100 percent of the funds raised goes to the indicated charity.
In 2006, at least two charities will benefit from the fundraisers,
Dell Childrenšs Medical Center of Central Texas in Austin, Texas and
J. D. McCarty Center for children with developmental disabilities in
Norman, Oklahoma. The SWRC tracks hosting the events include Iron
Rock Raceway of Austin and Oklahoma Motorsports Complex of Norman,
Oklahoma.
As part of the program, KRK racers also will take part in scheduled
visits with children located at the centers, where they will discuss
racing, sign hero cards and encourage other youngsters to follow
their dreams, whatever they might be.
"This will be an ongoing program," said Boyett. "And we already have
a number of other racers interested. Our goal is to have a group of
20 racers raising funds by the end of 2006."
The racers participating in KRK at the Southwest Regional Cup at
Iron Rock Raceway this weekend included Taylor Boyett, age 6; Austin
Self and Austin Osbourne, age 9; Gavin Boyette and Andres Lopez, age
10; Broc Yocom, age 11; Kyle Maynard, age 14; and Matthew Maynard,
age 15. Sponsors donating money to KRK included Applied Mechanical,
Home Repairs, Etc., Builders Plus, The Neidhart Group and J.C.
