Race Report from the Kart Sprint Grand Nationals June 27-June 29

It was a warm humid week that 185 racers came to North Texas Kartways to contest 28 classes of racing in the friendly family oriented atmosphere provided by the KART organization.  9 new track records were set at the NTK track over the weekend.  KART was formed as a mid-America organization at a time when WKA was mostly to the east, and IKF was mostly to the west with middle America kind of grasping for the karting straws.  Over the years the organization has gained strength remaining within their charter territory.  Entry counts were down this year consistent with the impact of the economy.  Never the less, plenty of great racing took place and nary a red flag.

Tom Argy filled the shoes as Race Director and emphasized clean and fun racing in the drivers meetings.  It was apparent they all listened.  Racing was held at night beginning Thursday evening at 7:30 PM with each rclass running a three heat format with accumulative points for the overall scoring.

Thursday night action

Kid Karts sponsored by Land Survey Companies were first up with 9 entrants, in some cases representing 3 generations of karting.  Not only was there some good racing among these young drivers, they were simply a treat to watch leaning into turns, passing and re-passing throughout the pack.  Kid Karts are the only class that will run all 3 nights.

Jr 1 Light Cycle sponsored by G-Man Kartworks had a small entry count and brought back the roar of a tuned Briggs motor to NTK
