Phoenix Kart Racing Association presents: Wild West Shootout 2002December 28-29
PKRA has a great 12 turn track with every type of turn and bump to keep drivers on their toes around every inch of the 7/10 mile track. Built in the early 1980’s and widened in 2001, this track hosted the Spring Western Pro-Moto in 2001.
Turnout was rather low with only 57 entries total. Traditionally this event would pull up to 200 entries, but between the economy and an IKF Region 7 race in California the following week, the entry counts were a bit weak. None the less racing was still top shelf. Notable entries included Adrian “Ace” Carrio in 80Jr., and the “Ironman” Paul Martin. Paul not only ran the 125 class on Sunday, but on Saturday he ran the Yamaha Light Class at the Holiday Classic next door. KGB Chassis were in force as the Ruth family assembles these chassis in Phoenix. Light turnouts make for a great laid back of pace for racing, and the overall mood was soothing – not what you would expect at a money race! Weather was perfect. Kartweb will be back for this race next year, and probably have 2 entries to add! Videos from the Junior Sportsman, Formula 125 and 80 Jr race are coming, and they were all spectacular races.
