Being the last regional race on the Red River tour, attendance was down
from the normal counts. November is often a busy time with the
holidays coming on, but the 35 competitors put on a good show anyway.
Rodney Berryhill for the first time was not available as he is in Italy.
Brett Berryhill took over as RD and did a fine job. John Anderson ran
the AMB Timing & Scoring system, and managed the scales.
Saturday weather was made to order for racing. Clear sunny skies
with temps in the 70's were that most comfortable of the year for the Red
River Region. As a major cold front was due to arrive early Sunday
morning, and with a low entry count, the race format was changed to a
Saturday only race, qualifying, 8 lap Pre-Final, and 20 lap Final.
Most notable were the class upgrades by some of the drivers, and the
performances they achieved. CR Crews, Chris Jackson, Cody Hadley, Jeff
Carter, and Reid Miller all were in new classes for the Red River Regional
finale.
60 Novice
This class has seen some strong growth over the last year, and offers
some of the most cost effective racing for Juniors. No wonder its
catching on. Some of the best racing of the day went on in this class.
Reid Miller having come away from a very strong season brought home the
victory one more time, a fitting way to end his retirement from the 60cc
class.

Rotax Jr
Rotax Max Jr put on some of the best racing of the day. Drew
Cleaver who plans to step up to SCCA racing worked hard to offset his weight
penalty with a pole position. In the Final, there were over a dozen
lead changes as Taylor Harris and Erin Dodson kept swapping the lead.
Drew was right there on every lap looking for a clean pass, but it was not
to be.

80 Junior
Reid Miller brought his new 80Jr mount and showed very good as he learned
how the 80Jr game is often played - everyone wants to lead the pack into
turn 1! A minor shunt cleanly removed his sidepod, and Reid quickly
worked back up to 3rd place in the pre-final bore getting the meatball flag.
Justin Hill having stuck a motor in qualifying came home in the lead of the
Pre-Final, only to fall out while leading the Final (appeared to have stuck
it again). Xan Rose gets the tough luck award for the weekend.
Twice Xan was knocked out of the race before the first tour to turn 2.
Coming back after taking most of the season off was Austin Embry.
Welcome back Austin, we hope to see you through the 2003 season!

G1 - K1
New to the G1 ranks is Jeff Carter, formerly a K1 Pro-Moto racer.
Cody Hadley Jumped into Jeff's old ride to contest K1, being run with the
geritol gang of G1. Robert Coreale had tuning ace Bill Tally
assisting, and come home with a comfortable lead. Chuck Herber put in
a steady set of laps holding to a good pace behind Jeff Carter.
Mechanical problems caught Jeff and he was forced to retire at 17 laps.
Paul Herber put on a good show to watch with some spectacular controlled
slides and drifts.
Cody Hadley put on a great battle with a slightly faster Michael Brooks.
Consistency paid off as Cody finished 4 seconds ahead to win K1.

S1
CR Crews entering in his first 125 race brought a full SuperPro
prepared kart and ran easily in SuperPro times. Qualifyin in the
upper-mid 43's, it would have put him in the top 20 of the World Finals in
SuperPro, or top 5 of S1. Also making a debut in 125 was Chris
Jackson. As a development weekend for Chris, he had some work to do
and during the main pulled the kart off for a pit stop. Only able post
times about 3 tenths off CR Crews, Chris will likely be a strong contender
for next year.
Reed Frohlich overcame the broken axle (the dreaded 50MM sprocket split)
in practice to take second, and win the Red River Regional Championship.
Chris Story suffered from some handling problems that could not be sorted
out.

Later in the week, we will have a few minutes of video to share from this
race. In the mean time, we added some pictures.
