 2006 NATIONAL RACE SCHEDULE

National racing in 2006 will see several refreshing improvements over 2005.  In 2005 fifty-five events were ranked as a "National" Status.  Traditionally karting rankings went from Local - Regional - National however far too many events were considered "National" level.  For 2006 a new level is introduced - the Divisional Level.

The events with a white background are those which truly fit a National Caliber event.  Those with a gray background are part of a National Series but only really count as a Divisional event.  This reduces the number of Nationals for 2006 to fourteen.  Fourteen events may still be a bit busy for the average karter to attend, so in bold print are the two top projected events for 2006.  If you find yourself ready to make your 2006 National racing plans we hope that you will take advantage of the information available on Kartweb in particular using our TrackData links for Hotel reservations.  We've screened several programs very carefully that offer you the best Hotel prices that you will find on our TrackData Pages.  We have over 100 tracks in the database although not all will be released before February.  Dates and tracks not yet entered will be added as soon as they are available.

Top Ranked 2006 National Events

Several factors were considered to score the top events for 2006.  How many people will be coming, what is the track like to race on, how much fun will a racer really have, how many great memories will they take home with them?  Not an easy set of questions to answer.

#1 Sprint Race Event

Without any question for the short track racers the Rock Island Grand Prix has evolved into the single most prestigious event in America.  It may not be a 20 turn track with banked turns that requires extreme physical shape to drive, but it does put a premium on the driving - enough that it qualifies as a great track.  Moreover, the Rock has developed a following from across the country being centrally located.  There is a fine balance of Senior classes at the Rock and for 2006 there is expected to be at least one or two popular Jr classes to be added.  The Rock is more then just a race weekend, it's a celebration of karting.  Rock Island towers over all other National Sprint Racing events.  Just to be a part of the Rock is more rewarding then winning most other Nationals Events.

#1 Long Track Event

For several years the Road America SuperNationals held the top spot for the Road Racers.  In 2005 the Barber track in Alabama almost took the "crown" by accident.  Truly a remarkable facility the racing was almost as good as the track was awesome.  2006 will see the unveiling of yet another billiard table smooth Road Course and this one is smack dab in the very center of the United States in Topeka KS.  The KART Enduro Nationals have long been a well kept secret among the Central Division racers, but in 2006 KART will move into the limelight at Heartland Park.  KART Enduros are a well run event and Heartland Park will be providing quite a bit of their fine talent to help make the event run smoothly.  Expect lots of top SCCA National racers to be in the mix as well as 2006 will be the first year for the SCCA Runoffs at heartland Park.  To be sure, if you have one Long Track National to choose from and you want LARGE FIELDS make plans for the KART Enduro Nationals at Heartland Park in July.
