SPEC 125 MOTO: NATIONAL UNIFICATION IS NOW ON TRACK
Press Release February 20, 2006

The process of unification for the Spec 125 Moto Standards has taken the next step as the transition of these Standards is underway from John Denman of Kartweb to Dave Larson of IRA, CES and TAG™ Racing International (TAG™).

The International Racing Association (IRA) and Championship Enduro Series (CES) are pleased to announce the introduction of the Spec 125 Moto class for 2006. Offering spectacular performance at a budget cost, 125 Spec Moto has quickly gain interest among karting competitors with the passion to “bang gears”. Over the last year Spec 125 Moto has experienced a wave of phenomenal growth thanks to the racer contributions to the Stock Moto Standards and efforts put forth by the staff of Kartweb.com.

Dave Larson comments, “The Kartweb staff has done an excellent job of developing the standards for this class to meet the many demands required to fulfill its full potential. Defining the technical boundaries for this class took vast base of technical expertise that the Kartweb staff was able to furnish in writing the Spec 125 Moto Standards. They reached out to the racers and identified what they wanted and applied quite a bit of testing to create the most effective body of rules for the Spec 125 Moto.”

John Denman commented; “we’ve been intrigued with the Stock Moto concept ever since JR Classen added this class to the Mission Region of SKUSA. As the baton was passed from JR to SKUSA it appeared to have been fumbled. Several independents began to pick up variations of the class leading to a smorgasbord of rule structures. From the lessons we learned with the introduction of the TAG™ Standards in 2001 we decided to go to work on creating the Stock Moto Standards working with the grassroots level of racing. Having several years of experience with building the CR125 motors helped us to separate the wheat from the chaff for specifications. “

The goals were simple;
• Racers would define the scope of performance, technical enforcement, and applicability they wanted.
• Specifications would be proposed to these demands and tested.
• Content of the specifications would come from majority vote.
• To roll out and promote the Stock Moto Standards across the country as an Open Protocol Standard for adaptation by the grassroots club and regional level promoters.

Those goals led to the development a working set of Stock Moto Standards for 2005 and further refined them for 2006 to include tech inspection tools to assure cylinder heads would remain unaltered.

The specifications are written in the order in which a tech inspector would inspect the motor complete with instructions for each step. The nature of the Standards does not require a CR125 Expert to perform Tech Inspections.

All motors allow some level of blueprinting including a Rotax. We omitted specifying some of the more challenging components such as reeds and instead recommended all potential performance enhancements that were allowed. These enhancements are of a very simple nature with a relatively low cost should the competitor choose a reputable builder to perform.

“The original goals have been achieved. It is now time to transfer these Standards to an agency better connected to the organizations to promote a singular body of Standards for the national and remaining regional promoters to come together with the Stock Moto program. I can’t think of a better representative for this task then Dave Larson”, quoted Mr. Denman.

The 2006 version of Stock Moto Standards are intended to remain unchanged through the 2006 and 2007 Season. With Mr. Larson’s collaboration with other promoters and clubs, we have made some minor updates required to assure that this class has stability over the next two years.

1. The Class Title will change from Stock Moto to Spec Moto 125.
2. The eligibility for legacy crankcases has been extended to a national status with an optional 10 lb weight penalty through 2007.
3. Pipes will be restricted to RCE T3, RLV R4, and RLV 6800 series.

Other than a few grammatical changes, all other content is to remain the same.
